.pkg
What Is a .pkg File on Mac?
A .pkg file is a macOS installer package. The Installer app uses it to copy an app or other software onto your Mac.
Double-clicking a .pkg starts Installer. Only open packages you trust — an installer can change the system.
A package can also bundle fonts, documents, or media. Those nested files are what you inspect for metadata after you know the package itself is safe. MSAM.media apps read metadata locally. They are not an installer.
