ICC Color Profile Metadata on Mac

ICC profiles define how colors should be interpreted. A missing or mismatched profile causes print and web surprises: dull JPEGs, shifted proofs, or “wrong” soft proofs.

When a photo looks fine in one app and wrong in another, start by inspecting whether an ICC profile is tagged at all. Untagged sRGB assumptions, Adobe RGB exports without a profile, and TIFF print masters with the wrong working space are common archival failures.

Mac-native inspection helps prepress and photo teams see which profile is referenced before soft-proofing or conversion. Pair ICC checks with TIFF archival reviews and EXIF/XMP so color intent stays auditable in the DAM.

MSAM.media apps—ExifTool Reader, ExifTool Reader Pro, and EXIF Exporter Pro—run on macOS and are sold only through the Mac App Store. Use them to confirm profile tags locally and export selected fields for color-QC inventories. They report what is written; assigning or converting profiles still happens in your color-managed apps.
