What Is a Canon CR3 File?
A CR3 file is a Canon RAW photo. Newer Canon cameras, including EOS R models, save the unprocessed sensor data in this format instead of the older CR2.
Open or convert CR3 in software that supports Canon RAW, such as Photos, Lightroom, or Canon’s own tools. The file is not a finished JPEG.
Before you convert it, the original CR3 still holds the camera metadata: white balance, lens data, and Canon MakerNotes. Reading that on the Mac shows what the conversion must keep. MSAM.media apps inspect the file locally and do not upload it.
Exporting that metadata to CSV keeps production reports aligned across freelancers and in-house editors. For manufacturer-private tags, see the MakerNotes guide; for Lightroom-style companion .xmp files, see the XMP Sidecar topic.
