When DateTimeOriginal looks wrong on the Mac, compare camera time, file-system stamps, and—for video—QuickTime creation atoms. Crossing time zones, daylight-saving changes, and catalog imports that rewrite ModifyDate are common causes of “off by hours” shot lists.
Mac inspection clarifies which clock a file actually claims before you sort a wedding day, rebuild a legal hold, or migrate an archive. Prefer DateTimeOriginal for many camera stills, but verify against your pipeline and MWG guidance when fields conflict.
